Documentation for integrating the watttron heating system

Getting started

If you plan to integrate the watttron system into your machine system, start with the following guidelines:

  • Key terms (Meaning of terms used in the context of the watttron system)
  • PLC integration (A guide how to integrate the watttron system into the PLC)
  • Infrastructure (Information about the network infrastructure)

Fieldbus Protocols

Beside a basic Digital I/O communication, the watttrix systems offers the following fieldbus protocols:

  • PROFINET: Typical running on devices of Siemens, Mitsubishi Electric and Schneider (Codesys).
  • EtherNet/IP: Usually used with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation or Omron. But also Backhoff with software modules.
  • ModbusTCP: As the predecessor of PROFINET it's still widely supported and used as a fallback.
  • MQTT: Offers by its publish-subscribe approach the most efficient way of communication but only supported by a minor part of PLC vendors.
